Cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT) has been empirically validated as the most effective treatment for anxiety.
I work within a cognitive-behavioral framework to treat children, adolescents, and adults with a range of anxiety difficulties, including phobias, social anxiety, chronic worries, Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD), Panic Disorder, perfectionism, and stress.
I work with parents of emotionally intense children to reduce conflicts at home and to improve their relationship with their child. My approach relies on neuroscience research that demonstrates how different parenting responses affect brain development. Brain-based parenting has been shown to increase the growth of the prefrontal cortex (the part of the brain that controls executive functioning and emotional regulation) and strengthen a child's secure attachment (the single best predictor of long-term well-being).
My work is strongly influenced by mindfulness and self-compassion practices. Research has shown that our sense of well-being is significantly increased when we are more mindful, no matter what is happening in the moment. Self-compassion is a powerful adjunct to mindfulness practices that helps us strengthen our ability to care for ourselves and soothe ourselves in times of distress. It has been shown to reduce anxiety, depression, and stress.
